I’ll admit it: typing “race week” makes me a bit nauseated. Nervous excitement! I’m going to have to figure out how to not be nervous all week long; usually I just try not to think about the race at all until race morning, but with so many things to pack and prepare for, I don’t think that will be possible.
Tomorrow we’re heading out to Hagg Lake after work to do an open water swim race, so I can at least don my wet suit one time before the race, and practice sighting and being kicked in the head. Usually I wouldn’t be out racing the night before I leave on a big trip, since that’s usually when I start packing and swapping out all the parts on my bike. But not this time! I already swapped out all the parts on my bike! Yay me!
I’m trying to think of all the things that could go wrong and pre-triage them; mostly my period is late and the thought of having debilitating cramps race morning is not filling me with joy. I keep going back to that scene in 16 Candles when her sister takes the muscle relaxants before her wedding, and the fact that we have to be on a shuttle at 5am race morning. I think I will feel just like that.
So prepare for lots of updates as we hit the road! ?
